What are berries?
Berry is a small, pulpy and often edible fruit. Berries are usually juicy, rounded, brightly colored, sweet or sour, and do not have a stone or pit, although many pips or seeds may be present. There are several types of berries, such as strawberries, cranberries, acai berries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. Also there are many types of fruits that fall in this category.
Health benefits from using berries
Berries are special because of their high levels of phytochemicals, which are naturally occurring nutrients that help protect cells from damage, says registered dietitian Nancy Copperman.  The berries, such as blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are full of nutrients and lower in sugar than other type of fruit.
In a study of 72 middle-age people published recently in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating just under a cup of mixed berries daily for eight weeks was associated with increased levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and lowered blood pressure, two positives when it comes to heart health.
